  • Early detection and treatment of eye disease often prevents blindness.
  • Aging is the most common cause of vision loss.
  • Vision problems may lead to loss of independence such as the inability to recognize pills, handle money, or find one's way around.
  • Poor vision can lead to trauma from falls, auto accidents, etc.
  • Many people do not recognize their own vision loss.
  • Up to 25% of older adults are wearing the wrong glasses or contacts to correct their vision.
 WHAT TO DO 
  • Make sure there is sufficient lighting for reading/close work at home and at the senior center.
  • Get an annual medical evaluation and treatment with primary physician.
