  • Breast cancer death rates increase with age.
  • Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women and the second leading cause of cancer death in women.
  • 75% of all breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50.
  • Early detection is the key to survival.
  • Mammograms are the most effective method for early detection of breast cancer.
  • Yearly mammograms are recommended for all women over the age of 50.
  • Medicare covers a mammogram screening once every 12 months for all women with Medicare.
  • Breast self-examination is recommended on a monthly basis, as well as yearly breast exams by a physician.
 WHAT TO DO 
  • Provide educational materials.
  • Provide a speaker to demonstrate self breast exam.
  • Get an annual physical with primary physician.
