Need Blood Pressure Check

 FAST FACTS 

  • High blood pressure causes increased pressure in the arteries that may cause damage to the heart, arteries, and other organs.
  • High blood pressure may lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney damage, and loss of eyesight.
  • A person with high blood pressure may be unaware of the problem because there are often no significant symptoms until damage has already occurred.
  • One in four adults have high blood pressure, although 30% of them are unaware of this condition.
  • Family history, race, diet, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, overweight, excessive intake of alcohol beverages, and some disease processes may contribute to high blood pressure.
 WHAT TO DO 
  • High blood pressure is treatable. Interventions include:
    - Education on the symptoms to report to a physician:
        change in the person's ability to talk, walk, or use their arms or legs;
        chest pain that does not go away; difficulty with vision; feeling tired     often; frequent nosebleeds; persistent headache.
    - Medical evaluation and medication.
    - Exercise: moderate exercise for 30 minutes at least three times a     week helps to control blood pressure.
    - Nutrition: low fat and low salt diet.

    - Report any changes in blood pressure reading to primary doctor.
 WHERE TO GO 
  • Go to a physician, clinic, or local pharmacy for a blood pressure screening.
