Need Money For Food

 FAST FACTS
  • Adequate food is a life necessity. It contains energy, nutrients, and other components that affect health. People require energy and other essential nutrients including vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fiber for the body to function.
  • Foods vary in their amounts of nutrients. Unfortunately, many of the lower priced food choices contain less nutrients than those foods that are higher priced.
  • Being too thin is linked with osteoporosis in women, and greater risk of early death in both men and women.
 WHAT TO DO
  • Contact agencies with food or referral resources for food services or aid.
  • Participate in nutritious meals and/or snack programs at the senior center.
  • Educate other seniors on selecting the most nutritionally dense foods one can purchase on a budget. This would include teaching skills such as; understanding the Food Guide Pyramid; how to read food labels; food shopping on a budget; and cooking with whole grain.
