Lead Poisoning

 FAST FACTS 
  • Lead causes the slow down of growth and even mental retardation.
  • You can get lead in your body by breathing or swallowing lead dust, or by eating soil or paint chips containing lead.
  • Lead can be found in all homes and other buildings: 
    • In soil and household dust.
    • Drinking water.
    • If you work with lead, you could bring it home on your hands or clothes.
    • Old painted toys and furniture. 
    • Food and liquids stored in lead crystal or lead-glazed pottery or porcelain. 
    • Hobbies that use lead, such as making pottery, stained glass, or refinishing furniture. 
    • Folk remedies that are used to treat an upset stomach contain lead, such as "greta" and "azarcon". 
  • Have children wash their hands before eating.
  • Old toys should be checked for chipped paint.
